@ Martin

Of course there are constant aperture zooms from Canon! You can find them mostly in higher price ranges. These include many from the 16-35mm/2.8L USM all the way to the 70-200mm/2.8L IS USM. Then again, many even in the higher range "L" class have changing aperture throughout their range; for instance the 100-400mm goes from 4.5 to 5.6.

What I'd find interesting would be if canon had introduced a new EF-S 17-55mm/2.8 IS lens with A NON-EXTENDING barrel. That would mean an even lower cost wide angle solution for indies shooting with RED as this lens is already compatible with all EOS EF mounts and was designed for sensor sizes almost the same as the RED's: APS-C, also known as "cropped DSLR".

Hi,

I must admit that I am totally new to this Birger Mount. As I understand it, it allows usage of any Canon mount lens on the Red. My biggest concern here would be resolution and abberation. Does a SLR lens handle 2K or even 4k? I guess it should, as they are made for 12+ mpixels.

But do they also work for moving pictures?

The other concern is that many zoom lenses change the F-stop under the actual zoom. Are there any Canon zooms that have the same f-stop throughout the zoom range?

Are there any framegrabs from red films shot with the Birger mount?

All sounds interesting if it comes to pass, however....a LOT of "ifs" in those statements about things coming to pass. Red appears to be spending a lot of time getting their own stuff Just So, dunno how soon or if they'll be supporting all these others potential features. There's a BIG difference between CAN and WILL...often called WHEN.

Just my $0.02, I hope it all does come to pass.
